We never have what is needed
Youth has worth to the older, but owned by the younger
Wisdom has worth to the older and younger and owned by neither
Maturity has worth to the older, and too late owned by the older

It is not all the good stuff we do, but what are we doing for Jesus.

Why are you hanging around Jesus?
No, really, why?
Is it for spirituality maturity?

Multifaceted?
Most believe that the human being is complex.
People initiated this error to justify their inability to improve their character or the belief that it is not necessary.
Complexity enters the equation from observations of the many insignificant gains and failures which have their origin from the simple noun and verb: sin.
Complexities show up when people say: "It is not my fault, I couldn't help it. I was born with this malady or inability or circumstances.

Talent
The flesh believes that nothing is more important than talent.
Morals have very little value.

Live the Truth
Living a deception will not make it true.

Live like you are saved
You may be saved from hell, but are you living like you are still going there?

Legalism
Legalism is not in the Bible, so is not defined by the Bible.

Life
If we would only give, just once,
the same amount of reflection
to what we want to get out of life
that we give to the question
of what to do with a two weeks' vacation,
we would be startled at our false standards
and the aimless procession of our busy days.

I thought I got this
We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics.
I understand this.
But, we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Now I am confused.

So that is how it works
Seems we constantly hear about how Social security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare running out of money?
What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't. So if you do not work, there will always be money for you.

1. Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and the restroom will call.

2. Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

3. Law of Probability- The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

4. Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal and someone always answers.

5. Supermarket Law - As soon as you get in the smallest line, the cashier will have to call for help.

6. Variation Law -If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.

7. Law of the Bath - When the body is fully covered in water, the telephone rings.

8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.

10. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

11. Law of the Theater & Hockey Arena - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

12. The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

13. Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

14. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jam sandwich landing face down on a floor, are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet or rug.

15. Law of Logical Argument-Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

16. Brown's Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they're ugly.

16a. Brown's Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they are on someone else.

17. Oliver's Law of Public Speaking- A closed mouth gathers no feet.

18. Wilson's Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy -As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

19. Doctors' Law- If you don't feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better... But don't make an appointment, and you'll stay sick. This has been proven over and over with taking children to the pediatrician.

Free Stuff
The folks who are getting the free stuff don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because …
1. the folks who are paying for the free stuff do not want to pay for more free stuff for the folks receiving the free stuff
2. the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.
3. the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.
And the folks who are getting the free stuff think they deserve even a larger quantity of the free stuff they are already getting.
Some of the folks receiving the free stuff are even selling some of their free stuff, so they can buy stuff that is not free and in some cases even illegal.
Now... the people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff and who do not participate in giving free stuff have told the people who are receiving the free stuff that the people who are paying for the free stuff are being mean, hateful, prejudiced, racist and even stingy with the free stuff.
So... the people who are getting the free stuff have been convinced by the people who are forcing some people to pay for the free stuff they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place, making them sub-servant.
The people who force the giving of the free stuff have let the free stuff giving go on for so long …
1. that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff,
2. that those receiving the free stuff cannot continue the free stuff life style unless they have more of the free stuff,
3. that those receiving the free stuff think that there is a lot more in life that ought to be part of the free stuff.

Afflictions, Though They Seem Severe
Afflictions, though they seem severe;
In mercy oft are sent;
They stopped the prodigal’s career,
And forced him to repent.

Although he no relentings felt
Till he had spent his store;
His stubborn heart began to melt
When famine pinched him sore.

“What have I gained by sin, he said,
But hunger, shame, and fear;
My father’s house abounds with bread,
While I am starving here.

I’ll go, and tell him all I’ve done,
And fall before his face
Unworthy to be called his son,
I’ll seek a servant’s place.

His father saw him coming back,
He saw, and ran, and smiled;
And threw his arms around the neck
Of his rebellious child.

Father, I’ve sinned—but O forgive!
I’ve heard enough, he said,
“Rejoice my house, my son’s alive,
For whom I mourned as dead.

Now let the fatted calf be slain,
And spread the news around;
My son was dead, but lives again,
Was lost, but now is found.

’Tis thus the Lord His love reveals,
To call poor sinners home;
More than a father’s love He feels,
And welcomes all that come.
John Newton
Author of Amazing Grace

Afflictions Do Not Come Alone

Afflictions do not come alone,
A voice attends the rod;
By both He to His saints is known,
A Father and a God!

Let not My children slight the stroke
I for chastisement send;
Nor faint beneath My kind rebuke,
For still I am their friend.

The wicked I perhaps may leave
Awhile, and not reprove;
But all the children I receive
I scourge, because I love.

If therefore you were left without
This needful discipline;
You might, with cause, admit a doubt,
If you, indeed, were Mine.

Shall earthly parents then expect
Their children to submit?
And wilt not you, when I correct,
Be humbled at My feet?

To please themselves they oft chastise,
And put their sons to pain;
But you are precious in My eyes,
And shall not smart in vain.

I see your hearts, at present, filled
With grief, and deep distress;
But soon these bitter seeds shall yield
The fruits of righteousness.

Break through the clouds, dear Lord, and shine!
Let us perceive Thee nigh!
And to each mourning child of Thine
These gracious words apply.
John Newton
Author of Amazing Grace

Dependents
I finally received my tax return for 2012 back from the IRS. Puzzling!

They are questioning how many dependents I claimed.
I guess it was because of my response to the question:
"List all dependents."
I replied ...
* 12 million illegal immigrants;

* 3 million crack heads;
* 42 million people on food stamps,
* 2 million people in over 243 prisons; and
* 535 persons in the U.S. House and Senate, plus
* 1 useless
President
Evidently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.
I keep asking myself, who did I miss?

  • Time Is a Stream
    Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains.
    (Henry David Thoreau, Walden)

  • Time Is an Equal-Opportunity Employer
    Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours; scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.
    Denis Waitely, The Joy of Working

  • Time Is a Miser
    Old Time, in whose banks we deposit our notes
    Is a miser who always wants guineas for groats;
    He keeps all his customers still in arrears
    By lending them minutes and charging them years.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, "Our Banker"

  • Time Is an Arrow
    Time is an irreversible arrow, and we can never return to the self that we sloughed off in childhood or adolescence. The man trying to wear youth's carefree clothing, the woman costuming her emotions in doll's dresses--these are pathetic figures who want to reverse time's arrow.

    Don’t worry Bub, there’s not a hitch

    Then things will go to smash?

    The whole point of personal business ...
    is not ownership
    it is stewardship
    Ownership does not pay. The thing owned can be of no value or can become of no value.

    "Music is my higher power"
    Oliver James
    Oh gosh, Ollie, you are so deep, so profound, so ... You sound like an old hippy. No, an old, old hippy. Who were you the drummer for, the Neon Opossum? Or did you play lead guitar for the Spelunking Ostrich.
    So much for sarcasm. Forgive me. I tried to resist, but food, my higher power, got the best of me and I filled up on cooked goose.
    For something or someone to be a higher power, it would need to be higher. Music is not higher than man. Music is for man. Man writes it, for Pete's sake.
    Ollie, have you been listening to Country and Western stations?

    "Religion is like a pair of shoes.....Find one that fits for you, but don't make me wear your shoes."
    George Carlin
    George really sounds noble here. Each person is to decide what is right or wrong for them. George is promoting anarchy, but he does it with the most noblest of words: you are fine, I am fine. Did you notice that he is not fine with you (something about your shoes) and that being the case, you are probably not fine with him.
    George, shouldn't we decide what is truth and stick with that, rather than each of us deciding by ourselves what is truth for us and what is truth for tomorrow and next year and some one else?
    George you come across much more nobler, when you just stand there and say nothing.
    Incidentally, George made a living as comedian. It gets worse, a political comedian. "I can see clearly now ..." the singer sang.

    "My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness."
    Dalai Lama XIV
    Born
    Lhamo Döndrub, he became the leader of Buddhism at the age of 2. He was enthroned as the ruler of Tibet at 15.
    To say that his religion is simply kindness indicates that there is no spirituality at all. Everything is up to him and his ability to be kind. Yet to take over a religion at 2 years of age, indicates a spirituality of some sort in control and guiding the events of man. This only leaves Lhamo as god. Which is exactly what the Buddhists believe. We should all be working our way to becoming a god, kindness givers. Sounds good on the surface, but yet the Bible says that the very best we can do is as filthy rags. And by experience, my own and with others, I know this to be true. This means that this "becoming gods", is not coming along too well.
    Steve Andres

    "I think it's perfectly possible to explain how the universe came about without bringing God into it, but I don't know everything, and there may well be a God somewhere, hiding away. Actually, if he is keeping out of sight, it's because he's ashamed of his followers and all the cruelty and ignorance they're responsible for promoting in his name. If I were him, I'd want nothing to do with them."
    Philip Pullman
    We are sure that Philip was very proud of the above quote, it may have taken him a few hours to pen it. He was correct in at least the part where he claimed ignorance. But to go on and state that God is hiding, when I see Him everywhere goes beyond ignorance to being pitiable.
    Though God is ashamed of Christians, there is no doubt. But His love goes beyond all of man's errors to giving Himself for man.
    Lastly, we are so glad that Philip is not God. Philip gives up so easily. Philip wants nothing to do with us sinners. Does Philip put himself above us, in not wanting anything to do with us? If so, he certainly has dimmed any light he may have received and we hope he has not wasted too much time in musing over other quotes.

    "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."  Proverbs 4:23
    Do not hold back with any diligence in guarding your heart. The heart effects everything else in life. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us."

    The Water is Wide

    The water is wide, I cannot get oer
    Neither have I wings to fly
    Give me a boat that can carry two
    And both shall row, my love and I

    A ship there is and she sails the sea
    She's loaded deep as deep can be
    But not so deep as the love I'm in
    I know not if I sink or swim

    I leaned my back against an oak
    Thinking it was a trusty tree
    But first it bent and then it broke
    So did my love prove false to me

    I reached my finger into some soft bush
    Thinking the fairest flower to find
    I pricked my finger to the bone
    And left the fairest flower behind

    Oh love be handsome and love be kind
    Gay as a jewel when first it is new
    But love grows old and waxes cold
    And fades away like the morning dew

    Must I go bound while you go free
    Must I love a man who doesn't love me
    Must I be born with so little art
    As to love a man who'll break my heart

    When cockle shells turn silver bells
    Then will my love come back to me
    When roses bloom in winter's gloom
    Then will my love return to me

    "I used to believe ..."
    Every scientist who has ever lived has uttered this single phrase a great deal more than once: "I used to believe ..."  They say this to prove their advanced and advancing knowledge.  But their statement betrays their knowledge.  Whatever they insist on today as being truth, is simply a refinement or editing of what they used to believe the day before.  So, tomorrow they will have a new truth that they will insist is the last word on the subject.
    They all speak with the most definite authority, but all have a change in belief at one point in time or another.  Notice the word "belief", not facts.  Facts do not change.

    Babel's Fallen!
    Babylon, Confusion, Conspired Error

    1. Babel’s walls, so long obscuring
      All the ways of truth and right,
      Crumble now before the shining
      Of the glorious evening light.
    2. Now are Zion’s walls erected,
      And her watchmen fear the Lord;
      From the heights of full salvation
      Loud proclaim His holy word.
    3. Oft they told us that no mortal
      Could enjoy this perfect peace;
      But we’ve found a full fruition,
      And the year of sweet release.
    4. Hail the day of heav’nly freedom!
      Though so long has been the night,
      Brighter seems the radiant splendor
      As we reach the evening light.

      Refrain:
      Babel’s fallen, hallelujah!
      Hear the saints in chorus sing;
      From the summit of Mount Zion,
      Hear their glad hosannas ring.

    O! For a Perfect Trust

    "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee."
    Isaiah 26:3

    O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
       My loving God, in Thee;
    Unwavering faith that never doubts
       Thou choosiest best for me.

    Best, though my plans be all upset;
       Best though my way be rough;
    Best, though my earthly store be scant;
       In Thee I have enough.

    Best, though my health and strength be gone;
       Though weary days be mine;
    Shut out from much that others have;
       Not my will, Lord, but Thine.

    And e'en though disappointments come,
       They, too, are best for me
    To wean me from this changing world
       And lead me nearer Thee.

    O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
       That looks away from all;
    That sees Thy hand in everything,
      In great events and small.

    That hears Thy voice — a Father's voice —
      Directing for the best —
    O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
       A heart with Thee at rest.

    A Beautiful Life
    (Public Domain)

    Each day I’ll do a golden deed,
    By helping those who are in need;
    My life on earth is but a span,
    And so I’ll do the best I can.

    To be a child of God each day,
    My light must shine along the way;
    I’ll sing His praise while ages roll,
    And strive to help some troubled soul.

    The only life that will endure,
    Is one that’s kind and good and pure;
    And so for God I’ll take my stand,
    Each day I’ll lend a helping hand.

    I’ll help someone in time of need,
    And journey on with rapid speed;
    I’ll help the sick and poor and weak,
    And words of kindness to them speak.

    While going down life’s weary road,
    I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;
    I’ll try to turn the night to day,
    Make flowers bloom along the way.

    • Refrain:
      Life’s evening sun is sinking low,
      A few more days, and I must go
      To meet the deeds that I have done,
      Where there will be no setting sun.

    Political Philosophies Explained
    * Feudalism: You have 2 cows, the lord takes some of the milk.
    * Pure Socialism: You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and puts them in a barn with the cows of others.  The government gives you some of the milk.
    * Bureaucratic Socialism: You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and puts them in a barn with the cows of others.  They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers.  You care for the chickens taken from the chicken farmers.  You receive milk and eggs according to regulations.
    * Fascism:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes both and hires you to care for them and sells you the milk.
    * Russian Communism:  You have 2 cows.  You care for them, but the government takes the milk.
    * Dictatorship:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes both and shoots you.
    * Representative Democracy:  You have 2 cows.  Your neighbors vote on a person to tell you what to do with the milk.
    * British Democracy:  You have 2 cows.  You feed them sheep's brains and they go mad and the government doesn't do anything.
    * Bureaucracy:  You have 2 cows.  At first, the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them.  Then it pays you not to milk them.  Then it takes both cows and shoots one, milks the other, but pours out the milk.  Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.
    * Capitalism:  You have 2 cows.  You sell one and buy a bull.
    * Totalitarianism:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and denies they ever existed.  Bans milk.
    * Environmentalism:  You have 2 cows.  The government bans you from milking them or killing them or using the fertilizer.
    * Surrealism:  You have 2 giraffes.  The government requires you to take accordion lessons and forbids the sale of your 2 cows.
    * Counterculturism:  Wow, dude, there's like ... these 2 cows, man.  This is like, wild, where milk comes from.
    * Hong Kong Capitalism:  You have 2 cows.  You sell 3 of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law, then execute a debt equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all 4 cows back, with tax deduction for keeping 5 cows.  The milk rights of 6 cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority stock holder, who sells the rights to all 7 cows' milk back to the listed company.  They now have all 8 cows with an option for one more.

    THIRD, because although they took my all, it was not much;
    FOURTH, because it was I who was robbed and not I who was doing the robbing.
    Matthew Henry

    The Fields are white unto Harvest
    If all the lost people of the world were to line up single file ...
    The line would reach around the world 30 times.
    The line would grow at the rate of 20 miles per day.
    If you should attempt to drive 50 miles per hour, 10 hours per day, it would take you 4 years and 40 days to get to the end of that line. But, by the time you reached the end of that line, it would have gotten 30,000 miles longer.
    The need of the lost is to be saved, the way they are multiplying, we had better get busy.

    Printing Press
    God suffers in the multitude of souls whom His word can not reach. Religious truth is imprisoned in a small number of manuscript books which confine instead of spread the public treasure.  Let us break the seal which seals up holy things and give wings to Truth in order that she may win every soul that comes into the world by her word no longer written at great expense by hands easily palsied, but multiplied like the wind by an untiring machine.

    Welcoming another Day

    And the Holy Trinity.
    Blessed be th' immortal soul
    And the Lord who keeps it whole,
    Blessed be the light of day

    Even such is time, that takes in trust
    Our youth, our joys, our all we have,
    And pays us but with age and dust;
    Who in the dark and silent grave,
    When we have wandered all our ways,
    Shuts up the story of our days.

    C.W.H.

    Prayer
    Groanings that cannot be uttered are often prayers which cannot be refused.

    Some folks are like the little boy who, when asked by his pastor if he prayed every day, replied, "No, not every day.  Some days I don’t want anything.”

    Prayer
    Pray a definite prayer for a definite thing, meet definite conditions, exercise definite faith, and God will give a definite answer.

    Prayer
    Prayer is something more than asking God to run errands for us.

    If prayer will help me out of trouble, it will surely help me to keep out of trouble.

    Prayer
    When we pray for rain, we must be willing to put up with some mud.

    If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies; yet the distance makes no difference—He is praying for me.
    McCheyne.

    Prayer
    To pray bout something and not make ourselves available is hypocrisy.

    Prayer
    Prayer is no substitute for duty.

    Prayer
    Prayer is measured by depth, not length!

    Prayer
    Nothing is discussed more and practiced less than prayer.

    Works
    A Christian does good deeds, but just doing good deeds does not make a man a Christian.
    Bob Jones, Sr

    Grace
    God is in the cleansing business, not the whitewashing business.

    Certainty
    Absolute dependence on what God has done equals salvation; absolute dependence on what God has said equals assurance.
    C.W.H.

    Works
    The religions of the world say, “do and live.”  The religion of the Bible says, “live and do.”
    Bob Jones, Sr

    Religion
    Religion is the best armor a man can have, but it is the worst cloak.
    John Bunyan

    Priority
    We don’t go to Heaven head first but heart first.
    Tom Malone, Sr.

    Grace
    It is just as easy to climb to Heaven from a molehill as it is from the top of Mount Everest.  You can do neither.
    C.W.H.

    Salvation
    You don’t spell salvation “D-O.”  You spell it “D-O-N-E.”
    C.W.H.

    Repentance
    Deathbed repentance is burning the candle of life in the service of the Devil, then blowing the smoke into the face of God.
    Billy Sunday

    Salvation
    Better never to have been born at all, than never to have been born again.

    Salvation
    Most anybody can put a new suit of clothes on a man, but only God can put a new man in a suit of clothes.

    Salvation
    Justification is something that cannot be reversed and followed by damnation.

    Procrastination
    If we put off repentance another day, we have a day more to repent of, and a day less to repent in.
    Mason

    Grace
    Trying to earn salvation by our goodness is like putting a drop of perfume in an ocean of filth.
    C.W.H.

    Faith
    I don’t know I’m saved because I feel good; I know I’m saved because the Bible says so; and I feel good because I know I’m saved. Bob Jones, Sr.

    Soul Winning
    Salvation may come in quietly, but few people can keep quiet about it.
    C.W.H.

    Certainty
    The salvation that Jesus Christ purchased for a lost world is wonderful in its magnitude.  It is as deep as fallen humanity, as broad as the compassion of God, as high as Heaven, and as everlasting as the eternal Rock of Ages.
    Uncle Bud Robinson

    Salvation
    You have not been high-born until you have been born from on High.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Procrastination
    Many who expect to be saved in the eleventh hour die at ten-thirty.

    Asking and Receiving
    Christ knocks at my door here, and I knock at His door over there.  If I open to Him here, He will open to me over there.  Isn’t that fair?
    Uncle Bud Robinson

    Fools, Foolishness
    Under the Constitution of the United States every man has the right to make a fool of himself as he sees fit.

    Repentance
    Many people believe that admitting a fault means they no longer have to correct it.

    Attitude
    Don’t go around with a chip on your shoulder—people might think it came off your head.

    Selfishness, Lazy
    When we expect more of others than we expect of ourselves, we are in a state of carnality.

    Your Father the Devil, Your Father in Heaven?
    What you are is not nearly as important as whose you are.

    Pride
    Self always wants to be crowned, but God says you must be crucified.

    Remembrances, Thankfulness
    He who forgets his friend is ungrateful to him, but he who forgets his Saviour is unmerciful to himself.
    Bunyan

    Repentance
    Confessing your sins is no substitute for forsaking them.

    Pride
    “No man has a right to do as he pleases, except when he pleases to do right.”
    Charles Simmons

    Pride
    When a man won’t listen to his conscience, it’s usually because he doesn’t want advice from a total stranger.

    Pride
    The Greeks said, “Know thyself.”  The Romans said, “Control thyself.”  Christ said, “Deny thyself.”

    Pride
    Who has deceived thee so oft as thyself?
    Benjamin Franklin

    Pride
    If a hypocrite is between you and Heaven, then he’s closer to Heaven than you are.

    Pride
    Big shots are small shots who keep on shooting.

    Pride
    Many people are suffering from self-inflicted wounds.

    Pride
    I have never met a man who has given me as much trouble as myself.
    D.L. Moody

    Repentance
    Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.
    Leo Tolstoy

    Pride
    I always like to hear a man talk about himself, because then I never hear anything but good.
    Will Rogers

    Appropriate
    One man complained, “I am the kind of person who, if it were raining soup, I would be standing there with a fork.”

    Pride
    He who falls in love with himself is not apt to have much competition.

    Pride
    It is all right to talk with yourself, but you are in trouble when you start asking questions.

    Pride
    I like to talk to myself for two reasons.  First, I like to hear intelligent people talk; and second, I like to talk to intelligent people.
    John R. Rice

    Pride
    Some people think they are big shots just because they explode with a loud noise!

    Optimism
    No man who thinks in terms of catching mice will ever catch lions.

    Pride
    Give some people an inch, and they think they are rulers.

    Pride
    We are all dangerous a fold without God’s controlling hand.
    William Ward Ayer

    Grace
    The will of God will never lead us where the grace of God is inadequate to keep us.

    Character
    “You can never do more than your duty,” said Robert E. Lee,  “and you should never wish to do less.”

    Character
    Service can never become slavery to one who loves.
    J.L. Massee

    Ministry
    If God has called you, do not spend time looking over your shoulder to see who is following.

    Character
    It is more important to be than to do.  You can do without being but you can’t be without doing.
    C.W.H.

    Character
    Serve for the good you can do, not for the praise you get.

    Character
    The higher you rise in the likeness of Jesus, the lower you will stoop in your service for others.

    Character
    Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

    Character
    The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.

    Opportunity
    Slight not what’s near while aiming at what’s far.

    Importance
    The most important light in the house is not the chandelier in the parlor.  It’s that little back hall light that keeps you from breaking your neck when you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Character
    The best ability is availability.
    C.W.H.

    Character
    Have your tools ready; God will find you work.
    Gospel Message

    Faith
    Reward for Christian service is based on faithfulness to opportunity given.
    C.W.H.

    Pride
    He who serves God for money will serve the Devil for higher wages.

    Character
    The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent upon it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as it had nothing else in the universe to do.
    Galileo

    Opportunity
    The measure of your responsibilities is a measure of your opportunities.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Character
    The real tragedy of life is not in being limited to one talent, but in the failure to use the one talent.

    Pride
    What a big difference there is between giving advice and lending a hand!

    Character
    A good rule to follow:  give God the first part of every day, the first day of every week, and the first part of your income.
    C.W.H.

    Character
    God never puts any man in a place too small to grown in.

    Character
    Our Lord was a willing Saviour, and He uses only willing servants.
    C.W.H.

    Power of God
    God doesn’t call the fit; he fits the called.

    Place Value Correctly
    When the good takes the place of the best, even the good becomes bad.

    Ready
    We need the eagerness to serve like that of a hunting dog awaiting a chase.

    Acting Out Sin
    Temptation is not a sin.  It only becomes a sin when it is yielded to.  Even our Lord was tempted.
    C.W.H.

    God Limits Himself
    Stay away from the precipice!  You can’t alter the inevitable!  If you lean too far out of the window, they’ll call the coroner!  If you eat salt herring, even the grace of God won’t keep you from being thirsty!  Eat raw onions, and even the grace of God won’t give you the sweet breath of a baby!  Some things are INEVITABLE.

    Profound
    You can find the world’s shortest sermon on a thousand traffic signs:  KEEP RIGHT.
    Amarillo News

    God Limits Himself
    God will lower the gate of warning, sound the bell, flash the red light, but He won’t keep you from crossing the tracts.

    Transfer of Power
    We gain the strength of the temptation we resist.

    God Changes the Heart
    Sin is a heart disease than can only be permanently remedied by the Great Physician.

    Order
    The lust of the flesh is a consuming desire to do.  The lust of the eyes is a compelling urge to have.  The pride of life is a constant thrust to be.

    Common Sense
    When in doubt play safe.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Relationship
    Christ died for sin; the believer dies to sin; the unbeliever dies in sin.
    D.L. Moody

    Incurable
    The disease of an evil conscience is beyond the practice of all the physicians of all the countries in the world.
    W.E. Gladstone

    Priorities
    A ship is safe in the ocean as long as the ocean is not in the ship.  And a Christian is safe in the world so long as the world is not in the Christian.

    Resist
    By yielding to temptation, one may lose in a moment what it took him a lifetime to gain.

    Acknowledgement, Results
    A prisoner mending his trousers was asked, “Are you sewing”, “No,” he replied, “I’m reaping.”

    Results
    Whosoever sows to the flesh must pluck the thistles of his own sowing.  He will be thrashed, scratched and bruised by the thorns of his own misdeeds.

    Without Honor
    Sin in a Christian’s life makes a coward of him.

    Singlemindedness
    Christ cannot reign in the parlor of our hearts
    while we entertain the Devil in the cellar of our thoughts.

    Temptations
    One of the worst things about sin for the Christian is that it weakens our moral and spiritual resistance.
    C.W.H.

    Payday, Results
    Sin: a moment of gratification; an eternity of remorse.

    Resist
    It is easier to suppress the first desire than to satisfy all that follow it.
    Franklin

    Sowing and Reaping
    Wild oats need no fertilizer.

    Clear Conscience
    A gash in the conscience may disfigure a soul forever.
    Spurgeon

    Priorities
    Bad things in life are enjoyed first and paid for later, but good things in life are paid for first, then later enjoyed.

    Priorities
    Right is right, even if everyone is against it; and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.

    Determination
    No one can honestly or hopefully be delivered from temptation unless he has himself honestly and firmly determined to do the best he can to keep out of it.
    Ruskin

    Sin Stains
    You cannot think dirty, you cannot talk dirty, you  cannot act dirty-and be clean!

    Resistance
    Temptations, when first we meet them, are as a lion that roared upon Samson, but if we overcome them, the next time we see them, we shall find a nest of honey within.
    John Bunyan

    Appropriate
    The time is never right to do a wrong thing.

    Sin is Never Discounted
    One thing to be sure of – there will be no reduction in the wages of sin.

    Backslidding
    To explain why you backslide does not justify it.

    Narrow, Straight Path
    Some people have yet to learn that they cannot travel in the wrong direction and reach the right destination.

    Sin will expose itself
    The Devil always gets out a few extra copies when a saint goes wrong.

    Exposed
    If we cover our sin, God will uncover it; if we uncover it to God, He will cover it with His blood.

    Try Your Best
    It is a sin to do less than your best.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Trap
    Better shun the bait than struggle in the snare.
    Dryden.

    Numbness
    The further a man goes in lust  and iniquity, the more dead he becomes to purity and holiness.  He loses the power to appreciate the beauties of virtue or to be disgusted with abominations of vice.
    Spurgeon

    Immodesty
    Where modesty is absent, virtue has no means of protection.

    Forgiveness, Forsake
    Sin must be dealt with in one of two ways – punishment or pardon.

    Responsibility
    Do not blame God for the harvest when you do the sowing.

    Following
    Follow the Lord, never follow your heart
    Follow love, never follow like
    Follow clear thinking, never follow fear
    Follow the truth,
    * never follow opinion
    * never follow the crowd
    * never follow appearances
    * never follow fashion
    Follow forbearance, never follow vengeance
    Follow consistency, never follow whim
    Follow decisiveness, never follow uncertainty
