Memorial Day Quote
"Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor engraved stone bear record of their deeds, yet will their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored."
Daniel Webster

You are not the Message.
You are the Messenger.
Tell the Message.
often repeated

Watch your thoughts ; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

The Water is Wide

The water is wide, I cannot get oer
Neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I

A ship there is and she sails the sea
She's loaded deep as deep can be
But not so deep as the love I'm in
I know not if I sink or swim

I leaned my back against an oak
Thinking it was a trusty tree
But first it bent and then it broke
So did my love prove false to me

I reached my finger into some soft bush
Thinking the fairest flower to find
I pricked my finger to the bone
And left the fairest flower behind

Oh love be handsome and love be kind
Gay as a jewel when first it is new
But love grows old and waxes cold
And fades away like the morning dew

Must I go bound while you go free
Must I love a man who doesn't love me
Must I be born with so little art
As to love a man who'll break my heart

When cockle shells turn silver bells
Then will my love come back to me
When roses bloom in winter's gloom
Then will my love return to me
Traditional

"I used to believe ..."
The phrase that every single scientist who ever lived has uttered is: "I used to believe ..."  They say this to prove their advanced and advancing knowledge.  But their statement betrays their knowledge.  Whatever they insist on today as being truth, is simply a refinement or editing of what they used to believe the day before.  So, tomorrow they will have a new truth that they will insist is the last word on the subject.
They all speak with the most definite authority, but all have a change in belief at one point in time or another.  Notice the word "belief", not facts.  Facts do not change.

Concession, Conciliation

Babel's Fallen!
Babylon, Confusion, Conspired Error

  1. Babel’s walls, so long obscuring
    All the ways of truth and right,
    Crumble now before the shining
    Of the glorious evening light.
  2. Now are Zion’s walls erected,
    And her watchmen fear the Lord;
    From the heights of full salvation
    Loud proclaim His holy word.
  3. Oft they told us that no mortal
    Could enjoy this perfect peace;
    But we’ve found a full fruition,
    And the year of sweet release.
  4. Hail the day of heav’nly freedom!
    Though so long has been the night,
    Brighter seems the radiant splendor
    As we reach the evening light.

    Refrain:
    Babel’s fallen, hallelujah!
    Hear the saints in chorus sing;
    From the summit of Mount Zion,
    Hear their glad hosannas ring.

O! For a Perfect Trust

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee."
Isaiah 26:3

O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
   My loving God, in Thee;
Unwavering faith that never doubts
   Thou choosiest best for me.

Best, though my plans be all upset;
   Best though my way be rough;
Best, though my earthly store be scant;
   In Thee I have enough.

Best, though my health and strength be gone;
   Though weary days be mine;
Shut out from much that others have;
   Not my will, Lord, but Thine.

And e'en though disappointments come,
   They, too, are best for me
To wean me from this changing world
   And lead me nearer Thee.

O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
   That looks away from all;
That sees Thy hand in everything,
  In great events and small.

That hears Thy voice — a Father's voice —
  Directing for the best —
O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
   A heart with Thee at rest.

What Jesus Is To Me
He is my Shield from every dart;

He is my Sharer of each load;
He is my companion on the road.

He is my Door into the fold;
He is my Anchor that will hold;
He is my Shepherd of the sheep;
He is my Guardian of my sleep.

He is my Friend with Whom I talk;
He is the Way by which I walk;
He is my Light to show the way;
He is my Strength for every day.

He is my Source of my delight;

Hard Work, Worth
Value is derived from the effort provided.

A Beautiful Life
(Public Domain)

Each day I’ll do a golden deed,
By helping those who are in need;
My life on earth is but a span,
And so I’ll do the best I can.

To be a child of God each day,
My light must shine along the way;
I’ll sing His praise while ages roll,
And strive to help some troubled soul.

The only life that will endure,
Is one that’s kind and good and pure;
And so for God I’ll take my stand,
Each day I’ll lend a helping hand.

I’ll help someone in time of need,
And journey on with rapid speed;
I’ll help the sick and poor and weak,
And words of kindness to them speak.

While going down life’s weary road,
I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;
I’ll try to turn the night to day,
Make flowers bloom along the way.

  • Refrain:
    Life’s evening sun is sinking low,
    A few more days, and I must go
    To meet the deeds that I have done,
    Where there will be no setting sun.

An Irishman is a man who?

May not believe there is a God,
but is darn sure of the infallibility of the Pope

Won't eat meat on Friday,
but will drink a pint for breakfast

Has great respect for the truth
but saves it for emergencies

Gets more Irish
the further he gets from Ireland

Believes in civil rights,
but not in his neighborhood

Believes to forgive is divine,
therefore doesn't exercise it himself

Scorns money,
but worships those who have it

Considers any Irishman who achieves success
to be a traitor

A Silver Lining in Old Age
I've sure gotten old!
I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer, diabetes, half blind and I can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine.
I take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts.
I have bouts with dementia.
I have poor circulation.
I hardly feel my hands and feet anymore.
I can't remember if I'm 85 or 92.
I have lost all my friends.
BUT, thank God,
I still have my driver's license.

Political Philosophies Explained
* Feudalism: You have 2 cows, the lord takes some of the milk.
* Pure Socialism: You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and puts them in a barn with the cows of others.  The government gives you some of the milk.
* Bureaucratic Socialism: You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and puts them in a barn with the cows of others.  They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers.  You care for the chickens taken from the chicken farmers.  You receive milk and eggs according to regulations.
* Fascism:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes both and hires you to care for them and sells you the milk.
* Russian Communism:  You have 2 cows.  You care for them, but the government takes the milk.
* Dictatorship:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes both and shoots you.
* Representative Democracy:  You have 2 cows.  Your neighbors vote on a person to tell you what to do with the milk.
* British Democracy:  You have 2 cows.  You feed them sheep's brains and they go mad and the government doesn't do anything.
* Bureaucracy:  You have 2 cows.  At first, the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them.  Then it pays you not to milk them.  Then it takes both cows and shoots one, milks the other, but pours out the milk.  Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.
* Capitalism:  You have 2 cows.  You sell one and buy a bull.
* Totalitarianism:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and denies they ever existed.  Bans milk.
* Environmentalism:  You have 2 cows.  The government bans you from milking them or killing them or using the fertilizer.
* Surrealism:  You have 2 giraffes.  The government requires you to take accordion lessons and forbids the sale of your 2 cows.
* Counterculturism:  Wow, dude, there's like ... these 2 cows, man.  This is like, wild, where milk comes from.
* Hong Kong Capitalism:  You have 2 cows.  You sell 3 of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law, then execute a debt equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all 4 cows back, with tax deduction for keeping 5 cows.  The milk rights of 6 cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority stock holder, who sells the rights to all 7 cows' milk back to the listed company.  They now have all 8 cows with an option for one more.

You May Be A Redneck If . . .
* You think the Stock Market has a fence around it.
* Your coffee table is an old cable spool.
* Your mother has "ammo" on her Christmas list.
* You burn your front yard, rather than mow it.
* Fewer than half your cars run.
* You have been kicked out of the zoo for heckling the monkeys.
* Your dog and your wallet are both on a chain.
* You think tooth paste is for gluing teeth back together.

Thankfulness, Robbery
On the very night that Matthew Henry was robbed, he prayed this prayer ...
"I thank Thee,
FIRST, because I was never robbed before;
SECOND, because although they took my money,
they did not take my life;
THIRD, because although they took my all, it was not much;
FOURTH, because it was I who was robbed and not I who was doing the robbing.
Matthew Henry

The Fields are white unto Harvest
If all the lost people of the world were to line up single file ...
The line would reach around the world 30 times.
The line would grow at the rate of 20 miles per day.
If you should attempt to drive 50 miles per hour, 10 hours per day, it would take you 4 years and 40 days to get to the end of that line. But, by the time you reached the end of that line, it would have gotten 30,000 miles longer.
The need of the lost is to be saved, the way they are multiplying, we had better get busy.

Faith in the Resurrection
In his Bible, found in the Gatehouse at Westminster after his death, Sir Walter Raleigh left this version of one of his earlier poems:
Even such is time, that takes in trust
Our youth, our joys, our all we have,
And pays us but with age and dust;
Who in the dark and silent grave,
When we have wandered all our ways,
Shuts up the story of our days.
And from which earth, and grave, and dust,
The Lord shall raise me up, I trust.

You cannot think dirty, you cannot talk dirty, you  cannot act dirty-and be clean!

Resistance
Temptations, when first we meet them, are as a lion that roared upon Samson, but if we overcome them, the next time we see them, we shall find a nest of honey within.
John Bunyan

Appropriate
The time is never right to do a wrong thing.

Sin is Never Discounted
One thing to be sure of – there will be no reduction in the wages of sin.

Backslidding
To explain why you backslide does not justify it.

Narrow, Straight Path
Some people have yet to learn that they cannot travel in the wrong direction and reach the right destination.

Sin will expose itself
The Devil always gets out a few extra copies when a saint goes wrong.

Exposed
If we cover our sin, God will uncover it; if we uncover it to God, He will cover it with His blood.

Try Your Best
It is a sin to do less than your best.
Bob Jones, Sr.

Trap
Better shun the bait than struggle in the snare.
Dryden.

Numbness
The further a man goes in lust  and iniquity, the more dead he becomes to purity and holiness.  He loses the power to appreciate the beauties of virtue or to be disgusted with abominations of vice.
Spurgeon

Immodesty
Where modesty is absent, virtue has no means of protection.

Forgiveness, Forsake
Sin must be dealt with in one of two ways – punishment or pardon.

Responsibility
Do not blame God for the harvest when you do the sowing.

Thankfulness, Robbery
On the very night that Matthew Henry was robbed, he prayed this prayer ...
"I thank Thee,
FIRST, because I was never robbed before;
SECOND, because although they took my money,
they did not take my life;
THIRD, because although they took my all, it was not much;
FOURTH, because it was I who was robbed and not I who was doing the robbing.

Learning to use good judgment
Always judge others to help
Never judge others to condemn
Do not forget to judge yourself, first.
G. Steven Andres

Following
Follow the Lord, never follow your heart
Follow love, never follow like
Follow clear thinking, never follow fear
Follow the truth,
* never follow opinion
* never follow the crowd
* never follow appearances
* never follow fashion
Follow forbearance, never follow vengeance
Follow consistency, never follow whim
Follow decisiveness, never follow uncertainty
G. Steven Andres

Genius
Someone recently studied the lives of 20 Geniuses and found three Common Denominators
1.  As children, they had loving interaction with adults in learning situations.
2.  They were basically isolated from other children outside the family.
3.  They were encouraged to use their imagination in terms of creative problem solving.
