To be Saved or Born Again, is to be safe from the penalty of sin and forever in the family of God.  One is saved by admitting his or hers sinfulness, realizing that Jesus Christ suffered and died in their place, rose again to place the blood payment for sin in heaven, then calling on Jesus by faith as Personal Saviour from sin. Once saved a person then receives the changed heart from God, he or she is
* born again inwardly a new person
* positionally in the family of God

Of course this is very much oversimplified as to all that happens to a person when saved, but is understated as far as how to be saved.
