Church Brochure

Up-Dated - Sunday, July 24, 2011

They are usually to expensive to give out to everyone.
Make it as nice as you can afford.
Black and White is great if budget dictates it.
Include as much of the following as possible ...

Service Times
Only put the times and days of regularly scheduled services which are open to the general public.

Top

Ministry List
The title of each ministry and a short explanation, very short should be delineated.

Top

Map
Use a map that is clear.  It may seem clear to the person making it, but try it out on people in the congregation.  Ask them to point to where the church would be and other landmarks.

Top

Paper
Use a paper with a slick finish and slightly stiff, but not a card stock.  Paper finish and weight lends taste and foundation to the church.

Top

Nursery
The nursery will be listed in the Ministry List, but make a point to inform separately when it is open and for what ages.  Mention training for its supervision and the routines followed.

Pictures
1. Pastor and his Family, actively serving the people or in an activity, not a formal portrait, not a posed situation
2. Church Building, as seen from the street while driving by
3. Church Sign, as seen from the street while driving by
4. Leaders in casual pose, some sitting, some standing or better yet, working at a project
5. Several SS Classes in an activity or mission trip, not all in a group picture, but showing them working and enjoying it
6. Do not use pictures of your people over dressed nor underdressed or too casual. Do not picture a person alone working or taking part in the service, no matter how happy they appear. There are some who will look at your brochure and cannot imagine themselves doing anything alone or in front of a group. By the way, never call on someone to read in front of the rest. Some will never come back if they think they may be called on to read or even pray.
7. New member being welcomed, but do not picture them standing up front or by themselves

Number 6, above, gives the impression that new members are received at the door when leaving. Prospects will understand that this is the place where they can tell the Pastor they want to join. Of course this is not the way it works, new members are not brought into the congregation at the front door, but it shows them how to get started.  How to get the Membership Ball rolling. When the Pastor is approached at the door ...
1. he can make an appointment to visit,
2. he explain the process - they must be ...
* Saved
* Baptized prior to membership
* Voted on by the congregation)
3. he can answer a few quick questions about the process, making the process seem a lot easier.
With most un-churched people today, anything would seem easier than standing up in front of the whole church without any prior explanation. Prospective members will still be received and voted on at the altar, but now they are prepared ahead of time and know what to expect and are willing.

8. A CD or DVD that elaborates more than a brochure can be made available, especially to those who have visited already. Much, much care should be taken here.
9. A CD with nothing but hymns being played on a piano, inter mixed with fast and slow and different piano sounds is great for people to play at home while doing housework, driving, etc. Suggest this on the cover. All the songs should be Public Domain and the musician should have given permission to copy the CD.
If you have talented singers, encourage them to record their songs and compile them on a CD to give away, too. Do not ask them to record something and then not use their work, because it did not turn-out. If it is not going to turn out, then don't ask to start with.
The music must not all sound the same. Variation! Variety!

Connecting
Attempt to portray your people as helping others and fulfilling the needs of the community. Most people come to church only after experiencing turmoil in their lives. Show how you can help them or have helped others through their problems. Do not DISPLAY your church and ministries. Attempt to connect with their situations and circumstances. They cannot connect-the-dots, you must do this for them.

Assemble these people and allow them to put their talents to good use.
