How to find
the Right Church?

Up-Dated - Friday, October 10, 2008

There are a lot of Churches
and a lot of different kinds.

Table of Contents
* Go with the people who told it to you
* King James Bible
* Preaches salvation from the platform
* Takes salvation to the public, non-believers
* The Lord has one in mind
* Calls on prospective members
* May have overlooked you

Since you are looking to just get started, we are going to stick to the very basics.

Since you are reading these pages because you have been saved through the efforts of a local Baptist Church (public event ministry, door to door ministry, teen outreach, etc.) you will want to see what the Baptists are doing.

We will not get into the arguments about which church was first, which has the true doctrine, etc.  If you got the changed heart when you called on Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, you know from your own personal experience that you were told correctly.  So let's just go from there.

Some interject, But why can't I still go to my old church?  I wonder why your old church never told you how to be saved?  Again, you know that salvation is true, because you have the changed heart to prove it.

Go to the church of the people who told you how to be saved.
These people are obviously trying to help you and love you.  Your response should be to discover what they have, because you have many friends and relatives who need to be saved, and need your help and love, too.

Choose a Baptist Church which uses the King James Bible
We are not talking about tolerating the King James, but actually using it in the preaching and teaching.  Why?  There is not room here to discuss the excellent reasons.  When someone told you (at a public event or at your door, etc.) how to be saved, they were using the King James Bible.  You understood and was changed.  Further more, we do not know of any church of any denomination who makes an effort to take the good news of salvation out to the general public, who uses anything but the King James.  If they people who told you how to be saved, did so from the King James and you know you got the change heart, you will want to stick with ...
* those people
* that kind of church
* that Bible

Choose a Baptist Church which preaches from the platform the same message of salvation you heard when you were saved.
Many churches claim to preach salvation, but you never hear it during their services.  Go to different Baptist Churches until you hear them convey how to be saved.  Give each one a couple of Sundays.

Choose a Baptist Church which reaches out to the general public.
Do the prospective churches have some or all of the following:
* bus route to pick up children?
* door to door ministry to find prospects to hear the gospel?
* youth ministry touching children outside the church family?
* ladies' Bible study for the church ladies and bringing in ladies from the community?
* men's group that reaches out to other men on a regular basis
Evangelistic outreach does not have to be well funded or highly organized, just active.
If they have no programs for touching the community with the good news that Jesus is Saviour, then they would not have found you and told you.  Look for a church who is extending a hand and actually seeing people being saved.  This type of church will likely extend a hand to you.

Choose a Church the Lord has chosen.
Once you have found a church which meets the basics, give them 6-8 weeks straight.  Don't come and go, but be there every Sunday morning and evening and Wednesday evening.  If you honestly can't make all the services, make it to all of the services at least several times.  On each occasion ask the Lord to show you what you need to see.  To some how put His hand on the right one.  After the 6-8 weeks are completed, then react the way the Lord has shown you, stay or move to the next available church.

Did they come by to see you during the trial period?
During the 6-8 week trail, did the pastor come to see you?  If it was a very large church, 250 or more in attendance on Sunday mornings, did one of his assistants or deacon (trustee, etc.).  Did some of the ladies come to see your wife?  Did someone from the youth group come to see your children?

Do not look for the church to cater to you.
They should be active in exhorting one another, but you may be overlooked in the process.  If you begin exhorting yourself, you will hardly notice.  If you are waiting for them to come to where you are and hold your hand and weep over your problems, then you are wanting a group of believers like we have just told you not to attend.
