Good Works
Are Not Necessary
for Salvation

Up-Dated - Friday, April 04, 2014

Ephesians 2:8-9  By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.

The above verse, like all statements in the Bible, is a promise.

When God promises Eternal Life, Salvation, the New Birth by faith, believing a promise, why should that believer trust in good works for assurance.  Salvation is received by faith, belief in Jesus Christ.  Salvation is not then all yours and none of God's.  It is still God's possession.  He is simply letting you in.  To lose salvation at this point is for God to ruin it somehow.  Since it was obtained by the giving of His Son, it is the most prized of all possessions.

Some will interject, "It takes faith to be saved, but it takes being good to stay that way."

The above verse is simple in its statement that God's gift of eternal life, salvation, is a gift and not of good works.  It goes on to say that if it were so, then there would be some bragging in Heaven that they got there, by being good.
