Promises for the Pilgrim

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."  John 3:36

We do not often comment on the promise for the pilgrims, but would simply like to say, that this promise has 2 sharp edges.  One that cuts the saved from God's wrath and the other cuts the lost from God's bliss.

Hello from the Highways

Thank you for your support, prayerful and financial.  Thank you for encouragement.  Sometimes this is the area that helps keep us going the most.

Well, we are starting a new year.  2005 only lasted 2-3 months.  Time flies when you only have 12 months to care for 15 months of work.

Thank the Lord for 2005.  We saw many of His blessings and witnessed His great hand moving in unforgettable ways.  This past year we saw Denny and Roberta Wallace take on a big bite of the work in South Texas.  Barney Smith began to work some of the county fairs in Northeast Kansas.  12 churches worked their own events.  The Repressa family works the flea markets in San Antonio on Saturdays.  All of this enabled Pat and I to be in another place at the same time.  One person said we were "Multiplying ourselves".

The Lord gave us 1210 professions of faith.

He enabled all of us to place 67370+ tracts in seeking hands.

The Lord let us work or manage 39 events.

They were in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming, Montana and Washington.  Some were just 1 day where it was necessary sometimes to drive an hour or 2, set up, work 10 to 14 hours, take our booth down and drive back.  Some were as long as 10 days, where local church help was greatly valued.

There were 139 who turned out from local churches to help in the booths.

(This number is huge.  Not that the number itself is large, but that there were that many who were encouraged with hands-on experience.  Some related the salvation story for the very first time.

We try to keep numbers on those to whom we witness, but do not pray with us at the time.  Often times we think back to remember many we forgot to mark down.  At some events, this number is probably as much or more than the professions.  At other events there are none at all.

We also would like to know how many received assurance of salvation.  This is another number that remains allusive.  We think there were at least several hundred.  We also look forward to this number rising since our pamphlet designed for this purpose has been put into action.

Pat had a great idea for helping those who never had, or think they may have lost, assurance of salvation.  We worked with her idea for several months and finally reduced it to paper with some very innovative notions, which we employed with some old, old concepts.  The result has been spectacular.  We have used it in a good many events all year.  Several preachers have begun to employ it in their personal soul winning.  Wished we could put it on this page.  Contact us if you would like to order some.  The way we have to produce them for now is expensive, but we are looking to help that as well.

We all realize that numbers are pretty much meaningless, since only God knows who was saved, assured, etc.  But numbers are a good indication of how each year measures up to the others.  They help us see areas that may need improvement and so on.

Overall, it was a very good year.  We are looking forward to an even better year in 2006.  None of it could happen, if folks like you, who are reading this letter, had not prayed and supported this ministry.  These are your numbers as much as ours.  Thanks.

Words for Soul Winners and Warners

Two exchange students from Brazil

18 and 19 year old students came by our booth.  There were about 6 of us in the booth and we all took a shot at trying to talk to them, because of their interest, but could not get them to understand salvation.  The Lord then put it in my heart to grab the Bridge Flip-Chart, which gives a pretty good graphic presentation of the Gospel and Salvation.  We normally do not use helps which have Bible verses printed out, because we want the prospect to see that the Bible itself is being used.

I set them down and with broken Spanish on my part and theirs (they were fluent in Portuguese) they both prayed and received Christ.  One was able to testify in English to several in the booth of his salvation, the other was not able to put it in English.  I wish now, that I had asked him to say it in Portuguese and then ask the first if he said it right.

But here is the point of this story.  A graphic presentation made all the difference.  It crossed the language barriers.  Truly a picture is worth a 1000 words, in any language.

This is true, even when everyone speaks English.  A person cannot go to a conference, seminar, workshop, etc., without having a presentation made in a "Powerpoint" type venue.  Why, because it is effective.  People are able to "see" your presentation, not just hear it.  And we all know, retention is much better with the combination of hearing and seeing.  If there are pictures or drawings along with words, so much the better.

Pat and I use a graphic, "Powerpoint" type presentation, which is drawn on a 3x5 card each time we witness.  It is used in conjunction with an open Bible.  Many, as they leave, whether saved or not, will ask for the drawing, because it gives them a better understanding of the conversation of the last 10 to 20 minutes.  They may not grasp the word, resurrection, but they can easily see and comprehend an arrow drawn from an empty tomb to heaven.

Terrific Testimonies

The following was gleaned from the back of Decision Cards from those making a profession of faith or receiving assurance.

Norma         52

I was born again from all sins.

Adriana       12 (permission to witness granted by parent)

The thing that happened to me was that I prayed to God to save me and forget the things I did.

Crystal        20

I was just assured that I have a place in Heaven.

Adam           18

I, Adam ______, was saved and cleansed of my sins tonight.

When Sending Support

Please mail to Heritage Baptist Church, PO Box 2213, Post Falls, ID, 83877.  Do not write our name on the check, indicate on a separate slip, for whom it is intended.  Pastor Haveman personally handles the mission accounts.  We are not fully supported, but fully active from Jan. through Dec.  Fairs, Festivals, Flea Markets, Parades are a great encouragement to Churches to reach communities with the Gospel.
