How to Start a Witness

* Ease the Fears
This is usually the most tense time for the soul winner and the
prospect. Put these fears to rest.
- Go straight to business
- Stick strictly to these points and you will be surprised how simply and
quickly you will be in the midst of a witness for Jesus Christ.
* Caution
Do not put-off witnessing until you "nail down" the following.
Just the opposite. Begin witnessing immediately and refine as
you go. God is able to use the smallest effort on your part to
do the mightiest work. But God can do nothing, unless you do
something.
* Warming Up?
Do not feel like you must warm up to the prospect. They have
sat down to SEE what it takes to be Born Again. Show it to
them.
Do not ask the prospects questions. They feel this is
intrusive. They did not sit down for questions. Give them the
answers to their questions, which many are not able to even phrase.
Comment
Your time with prospects is much more limited than what you may
think. They are usually at the event with family or friends,
who may not be patient. Parents of teens are even less patient.
* Introduction
"Hi, I'm Steve, what are your name(s)?"
Comment
By giving only your first name, the prospect will feel comfortable
in furnishing you just their first name.
Do not mention your church or religion. These are
argumentative issues which waste time and are not productive.
* Go immediately
to work
"The reason why we must be born again is because we have ruined
the first birth and here is how we ruined it."
Comment
Take them to the verse of your choice which shows the prospect is a
sinner and in need of saving.
* Witness
Use a set of Bible verses with which you are familiar and
comfortable.
Use a set of verses which express at lease ...
- The prospect is a sinner
- The prospect needs a Saviour
- Jesus is the Saviour
- The prospect must call on Jesus as Saviour
Use sentences which make the presentation flow from one verse to the
other, one idea to the other. If the presentation is too choppy with
thought transitions which present new thoughts without explanation.
The prospect may be confused.
Examples ...
- "Since we are all sinners and cannot get into heaven, then where must
sinners go?" Moving from sinfulness to punishment.
- "Jesus paid your punishment for you." Moving sinners from the
debt of punishment to the debt payment.
Comment
Work on these. Get the wording down to as few words as possible. Use
specific words which say what you want for each point.
